Stability-limited ion-exchange of calcium with zinc in biomimetic hydroxyapatite

چکیده

The exchange of Ca2+ ions in hydroxyapatite (HAp) with Zn2+ into Zn-HAp is interest for applications ranging from bone tissue engineering to the use as a precursor subsequent ion-exchange reactions. Previous studies, using direct synthesis, showed that ~ 20 mol% can be incorporated HAp, before byproducts are observed. However, this realized at cost loss crystallinity and control over crystal size shape increasing amounts ion incorporation. In work simple post-synthetic strategy formation has been investigated. By merely exposing HAp high concentrations zinc nitrate water, up 22 displaced by without any measured preservation crystallite shape. It was found incorporation destabilizes crystals resulting their gradual dissolution reprecipitation. Consequently, promoting Zn2+ions increased reaction times, sonication temperature results an precipitation hopeite crystals, thereby preventing more rich Zn-HAp.

Ion exchange growth of Zinc Sulfide quantum dots in aqueous solution

We report the growth by ion exchange synthesis of ZnS nanoparticles in MCM-41 matrices using Zn (CH3COO)2 and Na2S starting sources. The final product (ZnS/MCM-41) was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectrometry (IR) and UV-vis spectroscopy. Its crystalline st...

The thermal stability of hydroxyapatite in biphasic calcium phosphate ceramics.

Biphasic calcium phosphate ceramics (BCP) comprising a mix of non-resorbable hydroxyapatite (HA) and resorbable beta-tricalcium phosphate (beta-TCP) are particularly suitable materials for synthetic bone substitute applications. In this study, HA synthesised by solid state reaction was mechanically mixed with beta-TCP, then sintered to form a suite of BCP materials with a wide range of HA/beta-...

Calcium ion exchange in crystalline gelsolin.

Gelsolin is a calcium and pH-sensitive modulator of actin filament length. Here, we use X-ray crystallography to examine the extraction and exchange of calcium ions from their binding sites in different crystalline forms of the activated N and C-terminal halves of gelsolin, G1-G3 and G4-G6, respectively. We demonstrate that the combination of calcium and low pH activating conditions do not indu...
